CONTEXT

It is easier to remember the pivotal points in our stories than the moments in between. But what is lost when we fixate on grand narratives? What is gained when we reflect on the mundane and overlooked? The daily rituals, the simple gestures, the quiet interludes that thread our lives together- these are the moments that I hope to capture in my art.

The Days In Between is a wordless picture book that features a collection of original illustrations. These illustrations began as a way to immortalize fleeting glimpses of tenderness- from a childhood teddy bear hugged down to bare threads to a mother’s weekly grocery run to the solitude of early morning bus rides. Each moment is rendered in colored pencil at a large scale, allowing ample opportunity for small, intricate details. Over time, the deliberate pace required to create each piece became almost meditative. The project gave me the chance to pause and look closely, and I hope that this book will elicit similar opportunities for contemplation.
